One of my favourite parts of being a photographer is my repeat clients (not that I call them clients, because they become good friends). Or in Dan & Emily's case, already are good friends :)
Getting to photograph each chapter in a family's life, document the children as they grow and change, it's really cool. And just the fact that people get me back for more reassures me I'm doing something right ;)
I've lost count of the times I've photographed the Woolsey family. I love how families get portraits done every year. I know one family that has a hallway full of the kids portraits from each year right back to when they were born. These are the kind of photos I look back on now as an adult, the ones of me when I was young, the ones where you ask why the heck did my mother dress me in THAT?! Those are priceless photos.
It really pains me when people say they can't remember the last time they had photos taken.
Life needs to be documented people! Family portraits aren't the formal procedure they once were. I tell my clients to treat them as a family outing, pack a picnic if you wish. It's a celebration of the beautiful family you have. And you only regret the photographs you didn't take.
How cool are these kids!!!
But then you couldn't expect anything less with parents like this!
To think when I first started photography I was afraid of doing family sessions. Little did I realise I would one day relish the challenge & rewards of family portraits. Now I couldn't imagine not doing them!
