I've changed my name!
Yes, I know, it's just a rearrangement of the words that were already there! BUT this change marks a significant point in photography for me.
The reason behind it?
I chose to be Photography by Heidi Horton in the beginning because that is exactly what it was, photography by me. I never wanted to be one of those 'pop-up' photographers, buy a new camera and start up a business kinda thing.
Becoming Heidi Horton Photography is my way of proclaiming - I'm a photographer! I feel like I've earned the right to call myself that now. I might be almost entirely self-taught but I think I'm good enough to now say yes I'm a photographer & I love to take creative portraits.
Along with my name change I made the decision to re-brand. I thought about this long and hard. There were so many names that I dreamt up to call myself but I didn't want to steer too far away from what people already know me as.
I realised that while a name is important, what's more important is the branding.
I don't want to be one of the photographers that takes on everything - every kind of shoot for every kind of client.
I refuse to spread myself that thin and do photoshoots that don't inspire me. Time is precious. That may sound harsh, I hope not, but for most photographers this is their work, taking on all kinds of photoshoots is how they make money. For me photography is simply a pleasure, I do it because I'm passionate about it.
I'm not out to make money.
I've already gone a long way towards moulding my own style & doing the shoots that inspire me.
Most people come to me because they've seen my photography and like the images I create.
I've had many comments about how my images are full of colour and beauty, they're creative and arty.
That's me - thats what I LOVE doing.
So what defines my photography? I love to shoot with a fast lens, short depth of field, I love bringing out colour in my editing, making the image pop, I like being creative with my editing, I love the light at sunset, lens flare and bokeh. I love getting technical but I also like breaking the rules & doing as I please.
And so these are the 3 words I have picked to shape my brand, to define my photography:
CREATIVE - MODERN - COLOURFUL.
I feel like this is what the bulk of my photography portrays & this is me :-)
PLEASE don't think that this all means I won't want to do your photoshoot! I very rarely turn down photoshoots!!!
It simply means you will want me to take your photos for you because you love the images that I create!
I take on a huge variety of shoots - portraits, maternity, children, babies, even family portraits (not my fave). I offer 3 packages & this, along with my portfolio, helps people see whether I can offer them what they're after. I truly believe photographers and the subjects have to be well-matched, not every photographer can give you what you may be after. Never pick a photographer just because they're cheap, pick them because you love their work.
I have developed my own style and I see things differently to the next person. That is the beautiful thing about photography. Re-branding my website & changing my name is a simple way of showing you where I'm at on my photographic journey & showing you my style of photography.
And if you love my work then I want to hear from you! x
Tell me, what do you think of my brand new "Heidi Horton Photography"?
