This Thursday I will have been full-time in my business for 12 months. It kind of feels like I'm celebrating a child's birthday, even though in reality my business has been around since 2013. I remember when I made the decision to go full-time I said to myself I'd give it a year & if it was too hard getting through winter I could always go back to accounting! Ironically even though we haven't shot any winter weddings, these 'quiet' months have been flying by in a blur of shoots, workshops and meetings.
So it probably comes as a surprise to a few that I have chosen to take a month off from shoots in August. My winter has been far busier than I predicted (which has been awesome & I'm beyond grateful because I was initially stressed thinking how quiet & slow winter would be!) so August is going to be my time to re-calibrate, set myself up for wedding season which is just a couple of months away, do all the wee things in my business that get put off during the busy season and provide a bit of time for a personal project I am dreaming of.
After 12 months of having a beautifully busy (and perfectly colour-coded) calendar it feels like I'm taking a big deep, grateful breathe to have blanked out 31 days in my calendar...August is going to be my month to reflect on the year that has been and start dreaming big for the next 12 months coming! I'm still going to be working in the office, answering emails and phone calls. The only difference is that I'm keeping my calendar free.
Our wedding season starts in September and I cannot wait! Plus I have portrait bookings, a wedding fair, another workshop & more in my calendar from spring onwards. If you're thinking of spring portraits or a family session before Christmas - you know where to find me 😉.
