Last week I transitioned from employment to self-employment. Eight years in an accounting career done & dusted to go out as a full-time photographer!
Wouldn't it be perfect if I could tell you how my very first week as a full-time photographer was all kinds of glamorous, liberating and amazing??! It's been an awesome, but very weird week. And by weird I mean things like being able to take a Monday as my day off, spending an office day in yoga pants & walking the dog on my breaks.
I quickly realised there are many new habits I am going to have to make for myself. Going from a set weekly routine & just cramming photography into every spare hour, to now having the freedom & flexibility to structure the week how I choose. Luckily I have Matt to keep me accountable and also to make sure I get up in the mornings - it appears working in my pyjamas is not an option he is going to let me have!
Parts of the week have been a little lonely. I was aptly known as the chatterbox at my old work, so suddenly having no one to share an office with has been weird - and the dog is probably sick of me singing along to the radio already! However every meeting, coffee date & shoot this week reminded me how much I love my clients and my friends in this industry.
It might take some adjustment, but one thing is for sure - I cannot wait to see what the next week & every week after that brings! One day I hope to look back on this blog post and laugh at how foreign the concept of being self-employed was to me. In the meantime here's to new habits, yoga pant days and continuing to dream! xx
