I feel like the word busy gets way over-used. People ask me how I am and I say something like "I'm great, I've been really busy!!", or because they know it's the start of wedding season I get comments like "you must be about to get really busy." I hear friends talking about their lives; "oh I'm just SO busy!", or others saying how busy everyone else is with their exciting lives (posted all over social media of course!) compared to their boring life. The word has almost started to make me cringe - kind of like when people choose to use the word 'moist'!
I think it's easy to fall into the trap of glorifying 'busy'. I've caught myself over-using the word recently and I hear it everywhere. And I've been asking myself whether we use the word 'busy' to mean successful/exciting/important/popular?! Are we really that busy, or are we just as busy as we wish to be? And is busy a good thing, or a bad thing?
Of course having plenty going on in my life & my business is something I'm incredibly grateful for. But I've made the conscious decision to stop using 'busy' as a measurement and to start being more intentional with how I am talking about my life and my business.
So the next time someone asks me how I am or how is my photography going, instead of saying "I've been busy" I'm going to say something more like; "I've been great. I've met & photographed some incredible people recently and I can't imagine doing anything else for a job."
If you find yourself talking constantly about how busy you are, or even wishing you were busier like everyone else, remember that busy is not a measurement or the newest 'trendy thing' to be. It is just a word. And there's so many other words I'd rather use to describe this wonderful life I'm living!
