It's been a while since I've had a baby in the studio so it was lovely to have Emily bring beautiful Cadence along for a newborn session a few weeks ago. Cadence was an angel & incredibly alert for 20 days new.
Something I've realised about my newborn photography is that I do it a little differently to my peers that specialise in newborn photography. A lot of newborn photos you see these days are beautiful posed shots, with complicated set ups and a big use of props. While I adore these kinds of photos it's not really my style, nor do I do enough newborn sessions to be nearly that good at posing a baby. I've done a lot of learning in this area of my portrait work, constantly trying to develop & refine my craft but one thing I have really started to embrace is that my newborn sessions aren't about creating perfect Anne Geddes portraits, but more about documenting these tiny people as they are in all their perfect newness. I walk into a newborn session with the aim purely of documenting this brief snapshot in time for the family, the real moments and the personalities.
For Cadence's newborn session we incorporated some knitted elements from family and friends plus some splashes of purple, Dad's favourite colour.
Emily thank you so much for getting in touch with me & bringing Cadence to see me. I look forward to sending you some beautiful prints to enjoy & cherish.xx
