Unfortunately there's nothing like bad news in life to put things in perspective. Last week we received devastating news that Henry has a cancerous tumour. While we are believing, praying and hoping for the best possible outcome that it hasn't yet spread and removal of the tumour will be the fix, it sure woke me up to the important things in life. Everyone that knows me knows how big a part of my life this furry pooch is. Henry has been with us since 2008, he's the best companion, he brings happiness and laughs to our home everyday, he's the centre of our wee family and we love him to bits, including his naughty streak and annoying traits.
Receiving this news had me immediately appreciating every single moment spent with Henry. It reminded me that you should never get too busy with life that you forget to sit and enjoy each special moment. And maybe instead of thinking in terms of special moments, actually all the in-between, everyday moments are just as important. Why is it that it takes something bad to happen for us to wake up to just how much we take for granted everyday? I like to think I make the most of every moment, but now I realise there are so many everyday, routine things that I could be a lot more grateful for; like walking outside in the mornings with Henry and breathing in the fresh cool air of a new day, the excitement as he greets us when we arrive home at the end of the day and what it means when he brings us his toys to play.
If you are reading this I beg you to hug the ones you love often, remember that you should never be too busy that you can't spare a few minutes for playtime and always, always choose to be present in every moment.
