I can hardly believe 2016 is all but over! It has been a crazy, fun-filled year. I usually do an end of year post (here's 2015) summarising the year for Heidi Horton Photography, but this year I've decided to blog my personal highlights and memories instead. Looking back on all that we've done this year has got me feeling pretty darn grateful...I've had dreams come to life, beautiful memories made with loved ones and we've truly accomplished a LOT! Back in February Matt and I celebrated 5 years married. Without getting too soppy, I swear every year I'm married to this guy I fall more in love! Earlier this year a big dream for Matt finally came to life! He got his man cave in the form of a shed, built high enough for a hoist (that dream hasn't actuated just yet) and complete with it's own bar. In June we went to Wellington for the New Zealand Insititute of Professional Photographers' national print awards and conference. This week of networking, print judging and speakers was a huge highlight of my year & I've already booked tickets for 2017! I entered a print in the Awards & came away with a Bronze score in the wedding classic category! With the help of Matt, I hosted my first ever photography workshop in Gore! This was an amazing day & I can't wait to do more workshops in the future! I spent a fun day with fellow creatives at the Croydon Bridal Expo! In August I took a monumental leap and went full-time with my business. This definitely stands out as the highlight of my year! This year I started straightening my hair and Matt grew a beard. Yeah I have no further comments to make about that beard... I've been doing more yoga and I'm loving it. I've shared many laughs, wines and good times with friends and family. And I've realised I do NOT take nearly enough photographs of all these good times! (2017 New Year Resolution #1). Weekend away with Alex to Wellington for World of Wearable Arts! I loved this SO much! And in between weddings and portrait shoots we've enjoyed lazy days by the river, long walks with Henry dog and a few mini adventures exploring. Christmas 2016 was epic with lots of family at our house - complete with food comas, TWO of my famous pavlovas and an afternoon of games & laughter! I sort of thought after a huge year in 2015 with our trip to America that 2016 would fall a little flat but I'm so thankful for all that we've done in 2016 and I know 2017 is going to be just as awesome!
Wishing you all an amazing New Year! xx |
